Yep, the final power mod has gone in the ute. Got my Unichip fitted on Saturday.
I haven't scanned the dyno sheets yet, but I ended up with 111rwkw on gas, and 120rwkw on petrol. There's a 9rwkw increase at 1500rpm, which decreases down to 3-4rwkw right across the rev range. Some of you may remember what I had listed in my sig as my power before (163rwhp/122rwkw) and are probably wondering how a Crow cam upgrade and Unichip can drop me 2rwkw... I was talking with the owner of FIST Performance at Wacol (where I got the chip fitted) and he seems to think that the last dyno run I had was done incorrectly. It would explain how I managed 163rwhp with just an exhaust upgrade and gas throttle body restriction. Anyway, torque is greatly improved across the range too, it feels very, very nice to drive now, and economy is set to improve as well.

I would of liked to see a pre FIST dyno as a comparison, it doesn't matter what Steves dyno said or for that matter what the new one does either ...

For now, I'm happy with it the way it is. I might get the bug again, but if I can find something else bar forced induction that will get me power gains on dual fuel, I'll try it.

why dont you take the gas restrictor ring out for the power run on fuel? so you get a higher reading than 120?

It's torque that's more important ... LOL
Not bad power for the duel fuel Kenny ... I am only making touch on 100rwkw from the stock EGAS engine .... so it's more power than me .... so you have to be happy with that.

Yeah, although thinking about it last night, how much of a restriction is a gas mixer?
Surely it can't rob you of the bulk of your power. What would a stock petrol AU I6 (Forte, Futura) put out on the dyno?

Nice mods AUII_SE UTE - Curious to know the DTE improvement after the uni-chip. Everyones fixed on the flash tuner but I would be wrapped with a 5-10% improvement in fuel economy so if the unichip did that at its cheaper price I'd be happy with that product.

That's exactly why I didn't answer Stiddy.
Because it's now tuned with Unichip, I figure that taking the ring out and trying for difference won't work.

Unichip is a live tuning chip though, it should be able to recognize and respond to the extra airflow.

and yes resetting the ECU almost always has an effect on how the engine runs on petrol.

So, what you're saying SB is that if I went to put another power mod on, that I wouldn't have to go back to FIST to re-tune it?

for small changes such as airflow increase, yes. Remember your car has an o2 sensor in your extractors, the extra airflow will make the mixture lean at first, the o2sensor will note this, and increase fuel to get the mixture right and to match the fuel map in the unichip.
For major mods, like a different cam, supercharger/nos etc, you would require it to be retuned.

Remember your stock ECU is a rather adaptive little animal, but dumb as a rock in regards to how it responds. The piggy back is designed to smart it up in how it responds to changes by controlling ignition timing and fuel.

From what I understand of Unichip though, is that it intercepts the signal from the sensor and sends its own signal to the ECU.
Wouldn't any extra increase from the original sensor get intercepted and chucked in the scrap heap by the Unichip?

It intercepts yes and sends a signal of its own, but its own signal is based on what the sensor says.
The sensors arent ignored, but instead of the ecu recieving a signal and saying, add 50% more fuel, the unichip intercepts the signal, alters it in a manner suitable to its parameters and sends this to the ECU. which may result in the ECU only adding 25% more fuel instead of 50%. If the sensors were ignored, if a failure occured, limp home mode wouldnt occur. Or say a fuel injector got clogged and leaned out the fuel, if the o2 sensor was being ignored, the detonation would damage the engine. The unichip just alters the rules, it doesnt change the game.

Ah-so...
Anyway, I think that blower idea I had ages ago is starting to sound good again. Check the other thread in here...

Supercharging is a good way to go with the 6 IMO, as you dont get turbo lag like you do with a turbo. The I6 auto is a slug down low as it is. Keep in mind supercharging for good power isnt as simple as bolt on and go. You need to lower compression, change your cam, and unichip could well have to go in favour of an edit, so you can control your transmission as well for extra control. If you just want "a touch more power" i wouldnt go forced induction, id keep looking at normally aspirated mods.

Yeah, I kinda like how the way it is, but the blower is something I ultimately want to do to the ute.

If you want a dramatic improvement, id be looking at a stall converter Kenny. Maybe even a 3.45 or 3.7 centre for the diff.
