once again i would say be careful thinking you are going to save a heap of money.
au 13000, maintainance over 5 years 10000, total 23000
fg 33000, maintainance over 5 years 0, total 33000 difference per week over 5 years $38.46. nowhere near $200 and if you had a bad run with au the fg could cost less
rego same, insurance same(can't work that one out but true),fuel au less but others say more.
10000 sounds alot for maintainance but last year i spent two grand on little things, clutch, power steer line, powersteer pump, trow out bearing, swaybar mounts, etc. still needs new plugs,leads,o2sensers,brakes,shocks,paint,interior etc. some years you wont spend much i realise, but soner or later it will be big things like motor 2-5g,gearbox 1-2g so i think 10g is ballpark for 5 years. oil and servicing, tyres etc left of both cars. that said i like the au's too just think about it, if it is just for the money

i didn't say it was nothing 'oil and servicing ,tyres etc left of both cars'. because they are roughly the same at probably 1g a year

There are so many flaws in your figures I honestly don't know where to start!

please tell me because i spend alot of time thinking about upgrading to a fg from my current au. the only major flaw is the initial cost could be better spent on home morgage where extra interest saved would be huge.another thing is in 5 years the fg will be worth 15-20g while au 5g if you really care i will show you a total breakdown and you will see why nearly every business and clever with money inderviduals (not me obviously still have 2 au's!!!!) keep buying new cars every few years because,(as well as tax reasons obviously) new cars cost NEARLY NOTHING more than old ones

I do see where you're going with the AU's needing maintenance - to a point this isnt a real concern to me because I can get the parts cheap through my second job and I would probably end up messing with those parts anyway.

Because for a start unless you are me you aren't going to need to replace that many things in that time frame.

Think about it, the Windsor will happily do many, many k's. Unless you are buying a flogged out high k version you won't need an engine. Keep maintenance up to the auto and you won't need to replace that.

Apart from consumables, suspension components and a few unforeseen items you won't need to do too much to it.

As for the FG;

Quote:
fg 33000, maintainance over 5 years 0, total 33000 difference per week over 5 years $38.46. nowhere near $200 and if you had a bad run with au the fg could cost less
You did say $0, over 5 years a car will start requiring some consumables and unforeseen items.

ute for ute the AU is good value over the B and F series cars.. the old wheezer is good for the sound and a mid 13 all day... provided your are not a huge 6 speed manual fan you'd be happy in the Windsor imho.

b2tf - there was a time when most people could not afford or be able to mod an AU.
Couple of years from now, it will be easy to mod the FG. AU has heaps of R&D and a forum load of experiences as to what works and what doesn't. FG will be like that, but it takes time.

Or just buy that supercharged AU ute...

Youre absolutely correct but I am an impatient bugger

The blown AU looks alright and unfortunately for me it is close enough to go and have a look at.....

that is a good point ,when you fix something replace with something better, motor, wheels, stereo, what ever. i am in no way bashing au's i think they are the best modern falcon, i sold my ba2 xr8 and bought another au, it is just a bit frightening how much i have been spending on them lately and what they seem to be worth
