tap the brakes, not enough to slow the car down much but to wake them up,
In my EB i had one wiper jet facing out and whenever some idiot tailgated me, had highbeams, or was just being an idiot, give it a little squirt and wet their passenger/s...

I have a neighbour that always drives down our road with his cheap (but bright) foglights and highbeams on and will NEVER turn the lights down... But theres nothing we can do about it, except when i drive the old mans 'cruiser, then hit the lightforce truck lights...hehe

If I am in the car I just slow up untill they get the whoops and go around.
If however I am on my bike, I keep a pocket full of marbles in my jacket. I just reach in with the left hand and flick one over the shoulder. Smashes into their car or windscreen and they think its a stone from the back tyre. They back off real quick.

The thread isn't "what's the safest way to counter a ******** tailgating you?"

It is "What do you when a ******** is tailgating you?"

If you don't like the answers, then don't read them. It's not your place to judge. Answer the question, that's where your posting in this thread should stop. If we wanted your opinion on how we drive, we'd ask for it...

As for you JC, while I commend you for sticking up for a mate, there's no need for it, all it's going to do is escalate the flaming BS even further...

I wait untill its safe to change lanes, then pull over, i get out of the way. 10 people have died this week on our roads i don't want to be the no 11. Do you all understand what happens to a car that gets tapped in the bum at 80km/h? your car steers from the rear and you usually leave the road. Why add to the tail gaters rage? let them pass. one day they will get whats coming to them... its called KARMA!!

meh generally let them do what they want...i don't let them worry me stress is not worth it and if there is an accident they will get done for neg driving at any rate.
The only occasion i've ever been really annoyed was at a 4wd on the narromine straight who sat rather a little to close for about 50k late one night, when he went past i did give hima bit of highbeam for a bit, got an apology onthe radio so i was happy, the guy even baught me a beer when i saw him next in wellington, fixed up his beam pattern for him too. I think people in general just need to get some perspective on the world and we would all be happier.

Yeah I would stick to the left for starters .Failing that I just move over have a look to see if they are agro or not if they are I will do a number of things from ignore to shug my shoulders but if they are pretty uncool about the whole thing drop it back a few gears and unleash the 550hp with the pipes open then theres no problem at all .

But mostly I don't get people doing tailgateing I get people crossing into my lane while trying to tak epics of my car on the rd and believe me it happens all the time .It happened this morning

Several here have responded that they move over/change lanes. Is this an admission that "Keep Left Unless Overtaking" means nothing?

tut,tut,tut.

As Falcon Coupe suggests, the correct option is not listed. If its a multilane road, complete your passing maneouvre (ignoring the tailgater) then move back to the left - where you should be - as soon as safe to do. In Europe the safe version of tailgating is flashing your lights to let the car ahead know you are coming up at a higher speed. Unfortunately this method isn't recognised in Australia hence much tailgating.

What's with all the aggro? Its only another car trying to go faster than you, that's their choice right or wrong.

Aggro leads to accidents.
