It'll be an absolute embarrasment.

Glenn Ridge or some other recipient of a personality bypass driving a Holden one week and a Ford the next. Being very careful to only say nice things 'cos if they upset anyone company a/b wont give them any more cars.

Think of the american version of "The Office". In theory that is the exactly the same as the original, just tailored to suit another market. Removing everything that makes the original unique and turning it into absolute crapola

as much as i want it to be good viewing and equal to the UK version, after thinking bout it for a while i think it will start out good but very soon turn to as you said crapola lol. Due to the above reason, they will be too pussy bout saying this and that bout a different car, and instead of looking at the stuff we wanna know they will go into airbags and safety issue and stuff i really not interested in.
All i wanna see is how fast and what stupid things they can do in the car pretty much what clarkson does when he is testing a car. also the things they get up too the convertible ppl mover, the rocket car they did last week and my favourite the soccer game they did.
Though i think one small remote view of this and they will have all the something something somethings up in arms bout banning the show and getting it off the air

as mentioned, it will all come down to the hosts and the budget and where the focus will be on the show. will it be a lot of aussie cars or similar types of cars that the u.k. version test but in aussie conditions.

most people have been throwing up names for hosts who are already in that field. i was thinking why not recruit some of the journo's from written media, which is essentially what clarkson is.

michael stahl usually writes very good articles for wheels. always worded to keep you interested and often plenty of humour.

I more often read than comment, but I just have to say-

"I think it will be Outstanding!

We have heaps of things they could do shows on. From B&S Balls and Outback ute days all over the country to Muscle Car Wars to Turbo Rice Racer boys. The show could be a hoot! As a cast, the Guy off the Shannons Adds! The dude with the Go Go mobile (spelling?) He would be a crack. Him and that ex weather guy who races V8 Super cars part time. You know does that stupid singing show, was on dances with the tards. Pay Mark Webber to quit F1 (yeah yeah I know) but imagine some dumb car exec trying to tell him he doesn't know what makes a super car. :

Now tell me that wouldn't be a cool show. The big question is What would we call the stig? : Thoughts anyone?? :

Aussie top gear might be good in it's own way, but not comparable to the UK top gear. It will be hard to find presenters that work that well together and are that good to watch!

That said my boss has the paperwork to apply to be a presenter as well, he'd be great at it.

the only problem is, our fun police ruin everything, if the our Top Gear showed any 'hoon' type behavior it'd be taken off the air, there are way too many tossers in this country who think thrashing a car around a track and putting it on tv is anti-social and irresponsible..also we could never have those races against places and the such, unless we did it in the NT (once they dispose of those s..t speed laws).

i'll eat my DJR hat and my left nut if this show lasts more than 6 months with good content, not some pussy shithouse car review show

one of the things that makes top gear is the fact that jeremy tells it like it is. if the cars no good he won't try to make it sound o.k. he'll just bag it. i've heard that if he gives the cars a good review, the sales for that car increase. not sure how true that is.

would that be the same here or would the manufacturers be a bit scared to lend cars for fear they may get a bad review and limit sales? i realise the magazines do this to a point but i find most journo's are fairly diplomatic with their reviews for the reason that they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

In a word, NO,
In all seriousness, the problem is finding an aussie who can really drive, is entertaining and is not associated with any particular brand!
John Bowe, Jim Richards, Robbie Bulgar, Cam McConville are all be good drivers and would be good in front of the camera but are all tied to the respective brands thru sponsorship etc,
Sam Newman from the AFL footy show would be good. Hes a bit of a larakin, calls a shovel a shovel, is good in front of the camera and he loves his cars. But he would be contracted to channel 9!
Grant Denyer can driver and is about hamsters height!
I dont envy the person who has to work out who is goin to be on the show thats for sure!

My guess is this show will be canned before 5 episodes. It just wont work in Australia for many reasons.

What celebrities are they going to use for the stars in reasonably priced car segment? Ben Cousins?

The mention of Grant Denyer as a possible host just makes it even worse.

Why do we have to have it the same as the UK show? I've always thought star in a reasonably priced car was the most boring segment, and I look forward to when it's finished and they go back to their challenge or whatever.

I voted maybe because I am always willing to give almost any show a chance...

It may well end up being good but the odds aren't great given the fact that virtually every motoring show ever made in Australia has sucked harder than Paris Hilton.

Oh and the major issue I forsee is that the show will be a vehicle (excuse the pun) for the Holdon Commondore and how superfantastic a car it is. I'm half expecting Mark Skaife to walk around with a hardon while talking about it actually...
