Just heard a V12 monoplane fly over heading towards Point Cook. I caught a glimpse but couldn't identify exactly what it was... Mustang?

It could be! lot of activity starting up with Point Cook air base lately with the impending airshow at Avalon, I've been seeing some different vintage aircraft lately flying over Weribee/Hoppers Crossing

It would have sounded awesome. Heard one at an air show in Leongatha decades ago.

And that prompted me to look at what's going on down that way. I now have tickets to the upcoming airshow.

If it's a raaf museum aircraft, they use adsb and will be visible on flight radar. You can use that to find out what it is.

Adsb exchange can be better for tracking military aircraft that are visiting for the airshow. Use the 'U' filter, top right corner, to look at military only a/c.

I had a normal transaction with a normal person, for an item honestly described on Dumbtree. We were both kind of surprised by the simplicity of it all.

Moreover (as Konfetka likes to say) en route to this miraculous event, I was routed by Mr Apple onto Harrow Rd eastbound, the sky was fairly clear and into the distance I could identify the pines which accompany The Grand Parade, a calm Botany Bay and across to Kurnell. Quite a different vista to that I normally see; a pleasant change in itself.

And to cap off the day, making up a regulated solar panel hook-up for my neighbour’s VE SS. 20W panel, PWM charge controller and fused SAE connectors. He’s a happy camper now.

I was given a deadline to get rid of a large Banksia tree stump in the back yard by the end of the first week in March. It had gradually died over the past 18 months and I had been cutting it down as the leaves in each section turned brown.
I thought it would take several days to get the stump out, spread over a few weekends, but I managed to get it out in one day today. That made me feel good.

Although I had to do some excavating below the stump to loosen it, I got lucky as there was no tap root, and I didn’t have to widen the crater too much to get under the lateral roots and sever them, especially as it was quite close to the back fence. The storm that was forecast didn’t eventuate, so I was able to finish before dark.

Now my next problem is how to get rid of it. I wrangled it out of the ditch but it is too heavy to lift and the trunk is too wide for my 14” chainsaw. I’ll probably get a tree lopper to cut it up with a large chainsaw and then get a skip bin for the stump and all the other cuttings.

I was slowly burning the previously cut logs in a small fire pit, but it was painfully slow, and after I set fire to the grass last time, my wife isn’t keen on any more backyard burn offs.

Motorised tipping wheelbarrow, Bunnings courtesy trailer, green waste at your local tip.

Stump may also have appeal to woodturners. Wood appears quite sound.

A mate split his Chinese Elm stump into flitches by carefully chainsawing from opposing sides.

Speaking to a lady on the concierge today. So i only speak candid when theres no people around so they keep up the professional appearance. The lady behind the desk i get along with on a personal level. So i was talking about how the freshwater snails in my sons tank bred and how he has 100 odd little snails making his tank very clean but he needs to re home them preferably not in the toilet.
Im deaf in my left ear, so somewhat spacially unaware.
Anyhows i said to the lady on the concierge that my kid told big snail he beleives made the other snail make heaps of snails he called gary. Yes a spongebob reference from my kid. So i said that snails new name is dodgey gary as everybody knows a dodgey gary. The lady on the desk chuckled quietly, but an elderly lady unbeknownst to me around the corner to my left burst out laughing. I did not laugh, i personally dislike comedians who laugh at their own jokes, but this lady comes over and says she has a friend called gary and she will ask him if he is dodgey. Simple respose from me 'if he says no its a lie'.
So i kind of messed up on the out of earshot conversation thing that i try to uphold. But man, that elderly lady i reckon needed to change her depends with how hard she laughed.

Finally made it to Rare Spares for those badges.
Found several other goodies I needed while there.

ie pair of van rear barn door seals and a rubber boot suitable for the Louisville's clutch I haven't been able to find.

For anyone interested, the HQ to WB Holden steering column seal fits a Ford L series Wagner hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. One inch bore and oversize push rod.

Thank you to everyones suggestions and help finding these.

Wow, good that some nice person on youtube has recently uploaded a digitally remastered version of the movie "Highballing" staring Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda. (1978)

https://youtu.be/bmFLo7YWk_8?si=7E57RzYp9yu_7i9O

Now I'm a little sad knowing that the K100 Kenworth featured in the movie did infact have the sound dubbed of a, what sounded like a straight piped Cummins VT903. (yeah, yeah, they often do)(clearly a V8 dub)

In a later scene with the cab tilted you can clearly see a (straight 6) Bigcam.

Still grateful to finally watch a non blurred version.

Have finally learned how to link timestamps on YT videos. Much easier than I thought!

Haven’t mastered the specific snippet bit, though.

Hi. In addition to turning in to an old fart another thing I did today was retire from work. Been doing a 4 day week but even that was catching up with me by lunch time so I called "time". The boss was OK with it and as well as shouting me and the missus out to dinner He had the work ute detailed and all the signage removed and said its mine so now I own a BA falcon again. Cheers MD

Well, that was nice of them.

I worked my face off for 20+ years giving 150%, often doing 20 days straight without a day off. I worked more than 150 hours of unpaid overtime. I supplied my own tools more often than not. Used my own vehicle for their benefit. Used my OCD tendencies to completely transform the place. And because I'm single with no family, I was always called to fill in while they all had weekends away. I missed out on family get-togethers and events I would have loved to attend but didn't so that they wouldn't be put out.

All of that additional effort, over and above what was expected, and where did that lead me? Being taken advantage of. And when I did say enough, I was then taxed 30% on my final payout, which wasn't their fault but is just another thorn in the side. I worked so hard for so long thinking that was what people wanted, but ended up shooting myself in the foot because that is what people took for granted and meant I went without.

My advice, only do the bare minimum for your job title. You won't get anywhere overachieving in this world. Not saying be lazy, but any additional work is a waste of your time. The employer never notices the good you do or the extra time you put in, but they sure as hell notice if you do something wrong or ask too many questions. We are all told to overachieve and people will notice. Oh, they notice all right, they notice who is doing all the free work.
