Hopefully a Steve Irwin Animal trust or something of that sort will be created... as his work needs to be continued on.... I feel incredibly sad for the kids, Growing up without a dad under these circumstances is terrible. Bindi will be old enough to know, Bob may not be... I hope Terri continues to live the way Steve would have wanted..... It would be a terrible waste if it didnt.

RIP STEVE..

Well the official Crocodile Hunter/Australia Zoo website is not working at the moment...I think they had their own rescue program with the ability for people to make donations...hopefully it will be back up soon.

To a man who was always larger than life and did what he did for the love of it. Put so much of his money back in to what he believed in rather than blow it like just some other celebrities. Did it for the love of the animals, and at heart, was a true Aussie.

RIP Steve, Australia (and the World) will miss you.

My thoughts exactly... I thought the girl at work was having me on when she said Steve Irwin was dead.

When Possum died, I had to read about it from 10 different sources before I could accept it..

RIP. :(

I was just as shocked as anyone else. When I was younger I religously watched "The Crocodile Hunter"

He will be truely missed by everyone who admired him, and those that didn't for the good things he did.

He pushed the limit as he so often did, and ultimately payed the price unfortunately. The most shocking apsect of it all is the rarity of the way he died. Athough it may be little comfort to those close, he is one of the few people that could say they died doing what they loved.

His documentaries have always interested me, where a lot of other people haven't because he was extremely passionate about what he did. You always do that much better if you believe strongly about it with your heart.

Characters of his type are few and far between these days.

You will be missed terribly. This loss doesn't just affect those close but a nation and even the world as a whole.

RIP Steve "Crikey" Irwin

RIP Steve. I liked the fact that he was different, was a big loud mouth and was a fun guy. My son loved him.

Very sad for his young family, they will miss him forever. I think everyone will miss that big, cheery, cheeky face on our tvs for a long time. There is certainly no one else out there like him, and he wont be easily replaced, thats for sure.

And I do genuinely hope that his last day, Father's Day, was very much enjoyed by Steve and his family and that it will be great source of treasured memories for his family.

I was also pretty shocked to hear of this, it's almost as though we knew the bloke, I was flat out with work so didnt hear of it till tonight's news

He was an absolute legend at what he did, mad as a cut snake but probably the most passionate animal lover and family man. He was always larger than life but that's what made him the bloke that he is. It's in this day and age that we need such people to stick up for the sake of our wildlife, I'm no greeny but why not stick up for the things that make the world whast it is.

My best memory would be either when he was in Africa searching the village for a 10 foot plus Black Mamba snake, which he eventually caught, or the 3m croc they had to relocate from a undersized concrete box to a bigger pool area. Steve eventually jumped in and wrestled the thing over the wall and held it till the mouth was secured.

RIP Steve Irwin and condoloences to his family

On another short note, in my opinion can't figure out why people have to post in here that they didnt like him. Entitled to opinions, but I dont think it's the place to be saying you didnt like someone who has just passed

Steve Irwin was not an Australian ambassador, he was a protector, champion and ambassador for wildlife and nature.. I can count those that have made a difference on one hand. For that, my utmost respect and admiration are his.

In short, an extraordinary person doing extraordinary things.

As Pink Floyd so perfectly said "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" The world will be a lesser place without your crazy enthusiasm

Peace and respect

Such a tragedy. It is one of those things you hear and don't believe. Whilst he may have been criticised at times, you could never criticise his love for animals, and his tireless environmental work.

Condolences to his family. Bottom line is, he has left behind a young family who have to live without him. RIP

Nothing could ever detract from the gentle, warm, sincere and overall beautiful person you were. Your legacy as an ambassador that embodied all of the great qualities that represent Australians will never be diminished. This truely is a very, very sad day for Australia, as we have lost a great mate.
RIP steve, and condolences to your family.

He wanted to "buy Australia" as he wants to save habitat from destruction.

The biggest factor in a genocide of a species is loss of habitat. Steve wanted to buy lots of land so that animals can live in freedom and peace.

He already owns land overseas to prevent destruction.

What sets him apart is that although he earns a lot of money, he doesn't use that money to earn more money. He earned money to help the animals he loves. He doesn't share the human lust for more money. The only lust he had was for his family and his animals. The ugly ones that nobody cares about.

Anybody can love a fluffy-wuffy cuddly animal, but who loves snakes, spiders, lizards and crocs? Steve did. And he risked his life everytime to do

I hope that Terri and family receive all the support they require during this difficult time, as well as the continual support that will allow Steve's vision to go on for as long as possible.

I share a lot of Steve's views re: animals and environment, so I would love to see that happen.

I believe over the next few days we will see just how much Steve was loved around the world. Never has their been such a benevolent aussie. I am still shocked beyond belief.

Default MSN - Turtles for Steve Irwin

'Scuse the randomness:

Has anyone else noticed all the turtle emoticons in peoples MSN names... apparently as a tribute to Steve Irwin.

I was just thinking how insanely HUGE this rather acute fad must be... everyone who has MSN that I know has at least one person with a turtle in their username.

Has anyone else thought about this. Where did it start? How big must it be by now? Reckon it is international by now?

What do ya reckon. Im blown away by the power of internet right now!

So... Turtles for Steve. RIP.
