Talking Solution for AU2/3 6 Stacker CD Problems

Fellow AU Owners,

I realise there is a thread for "Common problems with AU', however I decided to make this a dedicated thread as i know alot of you (me included) have been having a few issues with burnt cd's not playing in the 6 indash stacker models.

After extensive research and almost giving up, I have found that using CD-R Audio CDs as opposed to regular CD-R's does the trick for our players.

My theory started off when strangely normal CD's play fine with no issues. However. play a CD-R and i will get intermittent skipping, track freezing and at times the player not recognising the cd all together. I have seen this is all too common in the 6 stackers with some people ditching the system and writing it off as defective.

Just for the record i used TDK XA80 and burnt at 8 speed and had no problems what so ever. Very happy with the results.

Cheers,
Gary.

Is there really any difference between CD-R and CD-R Audio? I thought it was just the packaging?

I read an article in APC magazine a few months ago that noted there were big differences between the quality of different brands of CD-Rs. In my CD player, some brands, such as TechWorks, pretty much don't work at all, whereas other ones, such as TDK Gold, seem to work fine.

Given my experience, I can certainly agree with your findings that some brands of CD-Rs will work better than others. I don't know if the "Audio" designation really has anything to do with it though.

Also, cutting the burn rate down to 8X or lower, as you have done will always improve reliability. I've never had any success playing CD-Rs burnt at 24X or faster, regardless of the brand.

Yeap you are correct. I suspect that the CDR-Audio blank CD's are a better quality cd. I guess what it comes down to is, rather than testing different cd-r's with a hit and miss affair, buying a CD-R Audio blank CD's will ensure the quality is better and will work.

i have one legit cd in my 6 stacker and it plays fine. although one burnt cd is now starting to skip. i have reason to beleive that the playe itself scratched it, because it came straight out of the burner and into the stereo. im hanging out for the radio to pack up again. i got a new ford one put in before i bought the car because the old one was screwed. we've had 4 different 6 stackers in my mums car lol.

I've had new (un-burnt CDs) ejected by the player. Then the next day the same disc plays. Who knows? The majority of playing problems have been burnt discs though.

There are differences in the type of CD-Rs. The vast majority of CD-Rs now are of the gold type. Audio CD-R are typically blue. In my experience with audio CD mastering (the process of taking a mixed recording, and preparing it the mass manufacture of CDs) is that they prefer particular types of recordable media to ensure any potenials errors with the mastered CD is reduced as much as possible. As suggested, this also means burning at low rates (max 2x actually... some never do more than 1x)

For what it's worth, I've always used Kodak CDR Gold Ultima CDs - haven't bought CD's for ages so dunno if you can still get 'em - but I've burnt numerous audio CD's on 'em at various burn speeds and never had a single glitch on any type of CD drive or consumer audio player including the AU 6 stacker. Reseaching years ago I determined they were the best quality discs around and I've never had any probs with 'em so I've just stuck with 'em.

i had this problem too with fresh burnt CD's- but then i switched CD-R's to a more expensive brand and all my CD's play!

Maybe someone can help me...? As of yesterday morning my player has a red light on and no response to any buttons, the screen is blank. Is it just dead?!

I am not sure what that means ut if you pull the radio fuse out for a few minutes and then reconect it ,the radio may well reset itself. If not maybe it needs some fixing.
