Default Heater Core time

Well I have been putting it off for about 3 years now, but I have finally decided that I am sick of freezing my *** off on the way to work on those frosty winter mornings.

So, ill be picking up a nice new heater core this afternoon to put in on the weekend.

Anyone here replaced a core on the EA before? Any tips, hints or tricks would be a great help, probably save me a few swear words along the way as well

Pull dash out and save the hassel of trying to pull the heater box out with just the glove box out.
Put wine corks in the ends of the heater core pipes to save coolant going everywhere.

Just rip everything out Simon, it's the easiest way. You'll be sooooo glad you did it and wonder why you didn't do it sooner when it's all back together

Could be a good time to fix any dash rattles you may have too

AHHHH CRAP... this does not sound like fun at all. Id much rather be working on installing blower #2 on the other car.

I guess its a good thing that the AC system needs a regas, so that not a worry. The last time I had the dash out was for the manual conversion.. oh the nightmares. It helps when LPG and alarm installers decide to run looms through clutch pedal holes, ahh the joys.

The firewall had the extra plate treatment a few years ago, but im sure i'll find some extra work back there, even if its just creating more rattles

Oh well, looks like it will be a all day job.

Just out of intrest, heater core quotes.

Repco $171
Buron $120
Ford $128 <<<<< WHAT THE???...... actually in a realistic price range for once!!!!

I ended up getting the heater core from Bursons simply because they were the only guys who had it in stock (CBF driving back and forth to Ford to leave a deposit).
They ended up doing it for $89, and I didnt even mention anything about the price. Sweet! The bloke must have been in a damm good mood.

$700, geezzz man thats insane.

With the AC pipes that need to be removed, do they have O rings that need replacing?

dont worry about the 0-rings, get them all replaced when you do the re-gas is simplier, but otherwise yes

Well... the heater core is in.
I must say, WHAT A ***** OF A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting the dash out was fine, but I spent about 2 hours trying to locate the bolts in the engine bay to get the freken box out, stupid sound insulation. (Sunny and Doug got a phone call about that one)

Everything went back in fine, but I still froze my butt off this morning as I didnt get around to connecting the heater hoses.

So yeah, im sure it will all be worth it when I get some heat in the car.

Sorry Simon I forgot to tell you about the screws through the firewall and how much of a bastard they are. Good to hear you got it back together.
