Hey guys just looking for some opinions on whats wrong with my ute. In the rain whilst driving it gets a thumping noise happening on the drivers side pretty much just behind the seat area sounds like something is hitting up under the cab constantly. Usually it happens at full throttle if i go half or less it wont happen and its only in the rain aswell, in the dry theres nothing at all. Really got me stumped....Any ideas? its a 2000 XL ute Egas 5spd manual too

But why would it only do it in rain? My tyres have way not enough tread on them so im going to try some others and see if that does anything

 I heard your good at it too Kenny :PBut I just went to put some different tyres on it and they wouldnt fit being commo rims but anyways  : on the short trip home it didnt thump at all however it wasnt raining either. When it starts raining again I'll go for another run and see how it goes

Weird indeed.
Especially only doing it in the rain. Does it only do it on rough roads ... or smooth roads???? Maybe it is water getting into something it shouldn't and causing noise ... maybe water ingress into the diff ... maybe an issue with bushes moving more due to moisture ... check all the rear suspension bushing and see if there is excess movement ... could be a number of things really. I have a weird noise at the moment ... I only hear it when next to a barrier on the motorway ... it's like a flapping noise from underneath the cabin ... but I can't find it ... it's starting to get annoying.

I've suggested a few things to Luke on MSN, like tailshaft/uni joints/leaf springs etc etc etc...
I just find it weird that it's only doing it in the rain. Bit warped...

yeah ... that's the thing ... only does it when it rains.
Maybe there's a midget under the ute bashing the underside of it???? Who knows.

my auII fairmont ghia is doing the same thing, except it seems to be coming from the front right corner. and only in the rain and only after i lift of the throttle.

i'd take a guess at something to do with bearings or bushes or something similar... and water getting into places it shouldn't...
had a similar thing in my old car... front end would make wierd noises when it was raining... i think that was water getting into front ball joint |

auto mounting, engine mounting, exhaust thumping due to engine movement (after market exhaust?), hand brake cable not secured thumping against floor.

hmmm well I was cruising along, the gears became harder and harder to grab, I was nearly snapping the stick trying to get gears and its pouring with rain so I wasnt stopping. Got to mates place and I couldnt grab a gear and hand the clutch in and something snapped. Not sure what but I'll have a look tomorrow and see whats doing.
