Dash glare in windscreen

Hey guys,

Check out the picture... i get massive dash glare in the windscreen. Anyway to reduce this?

13 coats of armorall will do that!
Mines a bit annoying, but nothing as bad as that!

Could a dash mat help?

Flock your dash...........and I did say "flock".

I only have a problem when I clean and polish the dash. Maybe the dash mat isn't a bad idea.
You used to be able to get "dulling" spray for glass(used all the time in the film industry). Maybe it could be used on the dash

Thanks for the quick reply guys... i'll order a dash mat from Ford tomorrow. Guy said he'd sell me any accessory for cost price because i bought a new car.

What does 'Flock' mean and also where can i get this dulling spray for glass and what does it do? (im noob :p)

I'd rather not get dash mats... i'll ask tintacar if they can do anything for the glare. they might be able to help!

its illegal to tint a windscreen though.

i've never seen that much glare... is it like that all the time? or just in 'that' light?
i've got a dash mat. lil' bit grampa-ish but it protects the dash and doesnt get any glare, well no where near as much as yours...
sales guy just grabbed a dash mat from a demo car and gave it to me

Are your side windows tinted?

Flocking is that velour type fuzz on toys and I gues some car parts.

Imagine spraying your dash with spray glue, then blowing tiny furry
particles all over it. Instant mat!

That would actually look cool if done well.....

Its not a tint but a coating that helps stop reflections.

Also, make sure that the inside of the glass is really clean - dirty windscreens tend to suffer more from glare than clean ones.

A flocked dash looks like this.
You would have to take the dash out to do it properly.
It is similar in look and feel to a suede steering wheel.
I've done it in my Rally car, and it helps greatly. Only problem is getting the dust out of it after an event. You need to use a brass brush, and an air duster.

Most rally drivers i know paint everything matt black and then just hose it out after an event.

It's like that most of the time. My new Ray Ban's came today and the polorized glasses definitely take it away.

Although when its not sunny, i really don't want to wear glasses and it's still visible.

Not yet. I'm getting my windows done next friday at tint-a-car. They even don't know what to do with the windscreen- told me not to bother tinting the top 10% because it will do nothing!

I too have horrible glare on my 09 Fiesta. Very interested in this non-reflective film, where do I find something like this AndrewR?

Get a pair of Spotters Penetrator Sunglasses - they will take away the reflective glare...are photochromatic - so they adjust to the light conditions (go lighter/darker) so you can wear them in low light conditions and they will enhance your viewing - and they will reduce eye strain in general while driving - best place to buy online - www.iwear.net.au

I find dark glasses make reading the instrument cluster a challenge on a sunny day. Suppose compromises are required even a dash mat is better than the reflective dash

Grey lenses (dark glasses) are not the best for driving..like you said a pain when reading instruments and your eyes will actually work harder - you need a copper coloured - this is a true driving lens - Spotters and Serengeti have these lenses. Spotters have a Copper coloured lens called penetrator and if you are after one to cut the most glare - go the Gold which is a 24k gold film in between the lens - cuts more glare than grey. And they are glass which has zero distortion.. all polycarb lenses regardless of brand have distortion which your eyes need to adjust to when using your peripheral vision. One more thing..they are Aussie made. A dash mat will help until you chuck something on the dash.
