My 2000 mod AU XR8 has a plate affixed on the inner guard ( drivers side ) that says this vehicle is fitted with a Momo steering wheel and a Tickford body kit, it also has a hand built Tickford 5ltr Windsor (not mentioned anywhere on the car) with all numbers matching up. It appears to me that this car started life as a AU Falcon V8 and had the Tickford bits added before it hit the road. Some things are different to what I read on forums like I heard ALL XR6's & XR8's are "fly by wire" mine has cables! The 16 pin plug for the OBD readers, mine only has 7 pins in the 16 holes. It's the little things like that, that I'm finding confusing. Any comments or advice would be GREAT!!! Thanks, george

If you want to know if the plate is legit have a build information sheet sent out by ford.
No au had fly by wire, that started at ba. Can say anything about the obd plug under the dash. |

DBW only came into Falcons from BA (2002) onwards. All AU's are cable.
Yes you are correct that they all started out on the line at Broadmeadows and were then sent to Tickford for the good bits. All AU's are OBD2 as well.

no the plug is obd2 yes but the data is not easily read by a obd2 reader and is best used read by forscan(on a laptop) as the data is a mix of obd2 and fords own coding

Thanks for the information! My son had the car for about 8 or 9 years of which 5 were spent under a bloody pine tree so it's got " pine cone dents " & I'm sure the car has had no diagnostic equipment hooked up EVER! So, I can use an OBD11 scan tool, even though there are only 7 actual pins in the 16 pin plug and use my laptop to view info via forscan?? Are there any ongoing costs $$$ for retrieving information from Forscan?

You can also get information about your car from FordEtis just click on the vehicle tab and enter your vin.
Forscan is free from HERE A OBD2 cable is about $10.00 on ebay

Well I purchased a OBD11 from eBay last night for a cost of $9 and at that price, well if it doesn't work, no drama. I will get in touch with the site that Mack suggested to try and put my mind at ease. I don't mind driving/ owning a replica as long as I know and it looks the part! Thank you for you help fellas, I'm hopeless when it comes to new cars even though mine is nearly 15yrs old to me it's NEW!!

not all au xr8s or xr6s got the tickford options..
so the ones that did get the extra options got the tickford plate.. however they did all come with the tickford engines, just added options like body kit, momo wheel and gear knob and sun roof was put on the tickford option plate... |

Yep, my poor poverty pack XR6 HP didn't get a single Tickford option when ordered, so no Tickford plate on mine.

Yeah, I suppose mine is a povo pack XR8. I got the steering wheel & body kit. The car is an auto hence no special gear knob and no sun roof. Thanks everyone for this wealth of info cause without it I would still scratching my head & I don't have much hair as it is!! George!

I went to the FordEtis site, put my VIN No in & presto, it gave me the build date down to the day. Yes it's an XR8 so now I can let all confusion go for the time being. We will see it come back when my OBD11 arrives! Cheers. George
