Puddle on the floor in backseat

hey all, im Matt and im pretty new to the forum as this would be my first post. i have found it to be great place for information and seems to have a great bunch of people on here too.

but to my problem:

i own a white 98 XR6 very happy with it till now, i was looking for something in my car when i put my hand in a big puddle of water behind the drivers seat on the floor. As u can imagine i was pretty annoyed, i tryed looking for the source but came up with only a wet hand...

it has rained before and i never had any water there before to my knowledge. But then its been absolutly bucketing down around here the past few days

ive searched the forum but came up empty handed.

so im just wandering if anyone else has had this problem or know where the water is coming from? so i can try to fix it so i dont have a swimming pool in the back

and yes the window has been up

hi , welcome to the forums , maybe make sure all the seals around your windows and doors haven't dried up , have u been keeping them lubed? / vasaline them etc etc occasionally ? ... if not the seals have probably gone hard and are leaking , get a rag and grease it up good and propper with some vasaline , then rub over all your seals to lubricate and soften them a bit , the vas also help seal it all a bit better too , u dont need layers thick of it though , just give them all a good rub and clean and vas till shiny and smooth ...gl .

we had a similar situation in my mum's 'lane. except the heater box went, and was leaking water :|

: so the whole interior and dash of the car was out, and the carpet and underlay drying to fix this bloody heater box

: yay for extended warranty.

first thing that comes to my mind is the rear window ,bit of a sod trying to find water leaks,as the guys have already said check the obviouse if you cant find it ,get someone to run the hose over the lower parts of your doors while your in the car working up wards slowly with the hose , idealy its easyier to find leaks without trim in car, ie seats carpet etc, but make that a last resort, not coming in around the door do the same check back window use a torch lay the back seats down ,you have to have patience sometimes it will take a while to run down, vaseline is also a good tell tale to see if your seal is working put a smear on your whole door seal and weather strip, close the door then check the seal you should be able to see if its not sealing, it will leave a mark ,seems unlikely it would be coming in through the bootlid and getting on to the back floor, but if your gunna check it do it before the back window, hope its an easy one good luck

I had this in my XF, possibly relevant...

On mine it turned out to be a leak in the top corner of the rear window, leaking down the inside of the C-pillar covering, under the back seat and onto the rear floor.

I had a similar problem in my EL and found it to be the air con drain blocked funnily enough. So I would check that first and work from there.

he said it was on the floor in the backseat so it wont be the heater....
has the car got a sunroof? check the drainage tubes to see if they're blocked...

are you dead sure the window was all the way up?

other than that, check the rubbers as mentioned

I had a quick look today and found a gap in the seal near were the roof and rear quarter meet (if that makes sense to you). The gap would be as wide as my thumb could this be the problem?, seems a lil to easy so i would assume not. but i will put some silicon or something in the gap to test it out. But other then that the seals seem to be in great condition.

Also notice that the bottom of the back seat is wet too if that gives yous any more clues..

No there is no sun roof so that idea is no good but thanks heaps for your contribution

Would this be covered under warrenty? as i brought it thru a car dealer who gave me a few months warrenty (which its still under) or would i be better of ringing to find this detail out?

It should be covered under the statutory warranty if the car is less than 10 years old and less than 150,000km. Ring the dealer and tell them what the problem is - I'm sure they will fix it.
