For note and performance a set of pacemaker heaaders, get an exhaust shop to mod your cat to suit and a 2.5 in lukey/redback from the cat back with a single muffler. It should make a noticable gain in power and sound

If you only have $1200, Redback is value for money.

LOL only $1200......

Go for the Redback 2.5" system. I've done more than my share of research, and this seems to be the best combo for value for money, performance and a good note.
You might have to fit a straight piece of pipe at the rear though - they're not overly loud. A good note though.

Hey Cartz,

Go see dean at totally exhausted in wodonga.. he is a champ and specialises in falcon and commodore custom exhausts..

I am running redback with straight through rear section and its really nice sound i reckon.. and they are fairly cheap..

As far as extractors go i would be grabbing a set off JMM in melbourne and get them put on at the same time as the rest of the exhaust.. Add a high flow cat and you will still have plenty of change from 1200..

Cheers,
Nik

Agree. 5 speed with decent exhaust = toughness. I never had the 2.5" exhaust on the auto, but even when I had the stock exhaust on the manual, it sounded quite good.

the list of priorities are as follows...
1. performance - looking to get this big heavy wagon off the line and down the track.
2. cost - i may be at tafe and poor but i cant go past the idea of "get what you pay for" or "spend more to get more"
3. sound/note isnt really a factor, as long as im goin faster
all suggestions are very helpful (excluding 5 speed, if only i could) and much appreciated. keep em comming

and for those who voted "other" reguarding brands, who do you recommend?

2 1/2" redback exhaust FTW. they are a very good off the shelf system. I am extremely happy with mine.

I have pacey comps, 2 1/2" redback high flow cat, and 2 1/2" redback exhaust with 2 mufflers.

Might want to consider wildcat or hi-tech extractors. They may be press bent, but have smaller primary's which boost low end torque and will help get that wagon moving. That's the route im going but if you've got the money for pacies or something like that, id stick with them. Got quoted $250 supply or $350 fitted for the wildcats.

YEAH! Go 5 speed! You could get an exhaust fitted for about $300, that still leaves you $900 to do a 5 speed conversion.. can be done :

Yeah id like to know that too, unless your cat is rattling then I wouldn't touch it.

The only time I would bother with a cat is if it was turbo.

Then again if your cat is rattling then its freed up some space, so meh leave it...LOL

Just get a good set of headers, and a red back 2.5 and you will be happy.

But for bang vs buck, 5 speed is the go. You dont get that much power from an exhaust system, say 10rwkw's or so.

A 5 speed would free that up, not to mention the fun factor.

Yea i got Pace extractors, 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust with 1 muffler and 1 resinator and sounds awesome and does give a little advantage but with a stock cat it really does limit the exhorst. I'm going for a 3" high flow cat as soon as i have finished buying this quarters tools for work. Oh yea a cat will only give you 2 rwkw by it self but frees up the extra 10 - 15 rwkw that the exhorst will give you. But yea get a 5 spd, if not for anything the fun factor of a mani still to do mine :|

ok been to 2 shops. got quoted $380 for a Redback system and $400 for Redback with a single Lukey muffler.
Lukey dont make a pipe for the wagons.

so do i want redback or Lukey muffler?
or does anyone recommend another system?

Its really up to you. Its only $20 difference. Most guys have redback but they are both good brands and you will get the sounds you want out if it.
